A Video Editor Minus the Subscription.

jumpcut.GG is a full video editor: auto-transcribe, clip straight from the words, build your cut, layer captions and graphics, and export to any aspect ratio. All on your own machine. Buy once, no accounts, nothing leaves your PC.

You can stop at any stage. Sometimes a video is just a good moment exported through a template. The Merger and Composer are there when you want more control.

Your first video, in about five minutes

the Prepare view: player, transcript, Clip Library
  1. Start with a local video… or paste a link on the start screen. If you don't see the link box, switch on Advanced import options in settings.
  2. Wait for the transcript. Transcription runs on your machine and a progress bar tracks it. When it finishes, the transcript opens in the middle panel with every word clickable; clicking one jumps the player to that word.
  3. Clip straight from the words. Play through or search the transcript, highlight the lines you want, right-click the selection, and either add it to the Clip Library or export it through a template from the same menu.
  4. A template export gives you a finished video with the layout, captions and titles already in place, rendered to your exports folder.
TipTemplates fill their text from the clip. A template title written as {clip} becomes the clip's name at export, so once a template is set up, every future export is two clicks.

The Clip Library

Clip Library cards: thumbnail, editable start and end times, Merge and Composer buttons on each
Clip Library: clips cut directly from transcript or made with the Clip Merger

Clips you create from the transcription become cards with a time range, a title, and a thumbnail. Drag cards into the Merger, send them to the Composer, or export them directly.

The Clip Merger

The Merger contains an ordered sequence of clips that plays as one piece and can be saved back to the Library as a single clip. You'll find it in the strip along the bottom. Click + Merge on any Library card to add to it.

TipWhile the Merger is playing, the transcript panel fades back a little. Click the transcript to bring it back.

The Composer

The Composer: offers full control to make any video you need
The Composer: offers full control to make any video you need

The Composer is a canvas where clips become layers alongside images, captions, and more. Add a clip layer with + Clip, optionally pick an arrangement from the Arrange tiles (single, 2-up, grid, picture-in-picture, scrolling walls and more), and select any layer to edit its settings in the inspector on the left.

Layers

The timeline

A layerd view of all of the elements on your canvas. Drag blocks in time, trim their edges, split at the playhead with S, and right-click for ordering, loops, per-clip captions and transitions between overlapping clips.

Output

The right panel sets the canvas size (vertical 9:16 by default, any aspect ratio available), the output name and the destination folder. Render Composed Video renders now. Queue Render renders in the background while you keep editing, with progress shown in Exports.

Captions

word-pop: the spoken word lights up, in the preview and the render

Captions come from the transcript, so there's nothing to retype. In the Composer, add a caption layer, or enable captions on a clip layer with its CC checkbox, and the captions follow whatever clip layer plays beneath them in the timeline.

The caption inspector: preset, source, length, size, color, font, word-pop toggle, outline and shadow, spacing, blend
the caption inspector: start with a preset and fine tune your caption look

If captions consistently land early or late against the audio, fix it once at the source with word timing.

Word timing

The Timing popover in the transcript header: a slider with a direction hint
the Timing control in the transcript header · set once per source

Sometimes transcription drifts against the audio causing words to highlight late or early. The Timing button in the transcript header fixes it.

  1. Turn on CC on the player so the caption highlight shows over the video.
  2. Play, and listen for a word, then pause
  3. Drag the slider until the highlighted word matches the speech. Drag right if words show up before they're spoken, left if they lag behind. The highlight follows the slider as you drag.

Release to save. The correction is stored with that source's transcript, and every caption, karaoke highlight and export from that source uses it.

Keyframe animation

The Animation panel with keyframe animation mode active and per-property key chips
keyframe animation mode: red canvas bounds, keys write as you adjust

Any layer can animate position, rotation, scale and opacity. Clips and images can also animate zoom, reframe, and volume.

  1. Select a layer and switch on Keyframe animation mode at the top of the Animation panel. The canvas frame turns red while you're in it.
  2. Move the playhead, then adjust anything: drag the layer, resize it, move a slider. Each change writes a keyframe at the playhead.
  3. Move the playhead again and adjust again. Playback interpolates between your keys, and eases (in, out, in-out) are set per key on the timeline diamonds.

The panel shows a chip for each animated property. Click a chip to jump between its keys, or its ✕ to clear that property. With the mode off, animated properties show a red ◆ and refuse edits, since playback would overwrite them anyway. Click the red value to delete those keyframes and take manual control back.

Templates

The Templates menu: save and import actions, then templates grouped by aspect - vertical, landscape, square
the Templates menu, grouped by aspect ratio

A template is a saved composition: layout, text slots, captions and effects. The Templates menu in the Composer header holds them.

TipSet your channel handle, wordmark and avatar once under SettingsBranding and templates will slot them in. A {channel} token in template text becomes your handle at export, and an image layer marked as a brand slot (avatar or wordmark, in the image inspector) fills with your image when the template is applied. Share that template and it brands itself with the next person's settings instead.

Plugins

The plugins panel with the bundled card-lookup examples
plugins are plain .js files · every file starts disabled

Plugins are small JavaScript files that add tools to the editor. Manage them from the plugins link in the footer. Every file starts disabled, and you should only enable files you trust, because an enabled plugin is running code on your machine and has access to your project.

Two examples ship with the app: card lookups for Magic: The Gathering and the PKMN trading card game. Enable one and a + Magic or + PKMN button is added to the Composer toolbar. Search a card by name or set number, pick the printing, and it drops into your scene as a normal image layer. The card's name, rules text and artist credit can come along as text layers, or fill into text you've already styled.

The bundled files double as worked examples for writing your own, and a README with the full plugin reference is in the plugins folder.

Files & questions

Where do my videos go?

Rendered videos go to your exports folder, shown in the Output panel with Change… and Open next to it. Projects save as files wherever you put them (Ctrl S), and the app keeps a rolling recovery copy on its own.

Does it need the internet?

Only to download a video from a link, or when a card plugin looks something up. Transcription, editing and rendering are fully local.

Simple vs Full

The toggle in the status bar. Simple hides the deep controls (keyframes, color grading, blend modes and the like) for a cleaner first run. Full shows everything. Switching never loses anything, only changes what's visible.

My captions are mistimed

See word timing for the once-per-source fix. A single wrong word is fixable too: double-click it in the transcript and type the correction.
